A Second Trump Administration Would Be a Catastrophe For America
If you know someone planning to vote for Trump, send them this article.

WASHINGTON, DC – Despite all of the most horrendous Donald Trump things that should have prevented him from ever showing his face in public, much less getting this dangerously close to the presidency again, the 2024 election will be decided on the perception of the economy. Prices, specifically.
I don’t mind saying: it’s keeping me up at night. I’ll explain why.
I’ve also written about the economy and inflation many times for The Banter, and you can find my most recent posts on the topic here and here and here.
Inflation is possibly the most visible economic indicator for most voters. Consequently, there will be quite a few undecided or “swing” voters who will be choosing our next president based almost exclusively on this one metric. Unfortunately, almost all of these voters are unaware of what’s happening with inflation under President Biden and what the Republican nominee plans to do to the economy.
If they knew the truth about Donald and inflation – if they knew what they were trading for a Donald Trump economy, they’d flee from him in droves, but sadly they don’t know.
So, this is for you or anyone you might know who’s leaning toward voting for a criminal tyrant because of prices. The following list is what’s also on the ballot with every vote for Donald Trump. Stick with me on this – my point will come at the end.
1. Donald will hand over Ukraine to Vladimir Putin. On numerous occasions, he’s also pledged to “encourage” Russia to invade NATO nations if they don’t “pay their bills,” not realizing there aren’t membership dues for NATO. He also said this week that Ukraine should “give up a little bit” of its nation to Putin.
2. He will guarantee a far-right MAGA Supreme Court for at least another 50 years. If Donald wins, Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito will likely resign, allowing the president to appoint far younger MAGA jurists to the Court. Gun control laws will fall, one by one, not to mention same-sex marriage, legal contraception, voting rights, and more.
3. He will stack the federal government with 50,000+ loyalists, per Project 2025, who will empower him to circumvent the Constitution, including presidential term limits. After all, if he’s stacked the government with loyalists, who would force him to leave at the end of his term?
4. He will repeal the Affordable Care Act, guaranteeing people with pre-existing conditions (such as COVID-19) will lose their insurance, or go broke paying for it. Medical bankruptcies will skyrocket again due to the overturning of the ACA's insurance price caps and subsidies. Insurance companies will also be allowed to kick you off your coverage as soon as you’re sick or injured.
5. He will pardon and release the insurrectionists who attempted to overthrow the 2020 election on his orders.
6. He will pillage the national treasury to enrich himself, not unlike his hero Putin. When Donald was previously president, he funneled millions into his properties via the Secret Service and overseas visitors, among other kleptocratic scams. Now that he’ll be unleashed by his loyalists filling government positions, imagine what he’ll steal from you and me.
7. He will order the military to shoot or arrest peaceful American protesters. His former Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, said Donald wanted to shoot Americans in Lafayette Park during the George Floyd protests in 2020. If he can make the case that it’s part of official duties, he will have immunity from prosecution, thanks to his Supreme Court.
8. He will order his Justice Department to arrest anyone -- from either party -- who was mean to him. He’ll do this by shifting the department under direct control of the White House. Again, this is a prong of Project 2025.
9. He will absolutely sign a national abortion ban. He will also sign a fetal personhood law, making abortion punishable by the death penalty – after all if a fetus is a person, killing that person would be murder. All it’ll take is for Senate Republicans to compliment the chocolate cake at Mar-a-lago and Donald will do whatever they want him to do.
10. He will significantly increase the deficit and national debt with tax cuts for billionaires, while raising taxes for the middle class. How do we know this? He did it once already. It’s really more for his own tax purposes, as an alleged billionaire himself, than any of his wealthy Monopoly men pals who hang out at his resorts.
11. He will end the democracy that countless American heroes fought and died for since the founding of the republic.
And my ultimate point: he’ll do all of these awful things, indelibly destabilizing the republic, and he will not lower prices.
Let me say this again: prices will be higher under Donald Trump. Guaranteed.
But due to zombie myths about the economy, too many voters are leaning toward Donald Trump because they mistakenly believe he’ll lower prices to 2019 levels. I have no idea what put this idea in their heads, but there it is. They are dead wrong. End of democracy wrong.
First of all, if prices were to fall to 2019 levels, it’ll mean a deflationary spiral deep into a catastrophic recession and therefore we’ll have far bigger problems to contend with than the price of bacon.
Second, and to repeat, Donald will significantly raise prices due to his plans for tariffs – which he can’t define and is lying about despite already having been president for four years – and mass deportations, both of which will supercharge inflation to catastrophic levels, according to the nation's most reputable economists from both parties.
Think about it. So many of us are planning to trade all of the horrible things I listed here, including the end of democracy and the disgusting insult that’d be to our many wounded and fallen soldiers of nearly 250 years, for the myth of lower prices. And Donald Trump will actually make inflation worse. Far worse than it was in 2022 or even the 1970s.
By the way, the Biden administration has lowered inflation to just 2.5 percent, which is only a statistically insignificant couple hundredths of a point higher than Donald’s year-over-year inflation rate in 2018. In other words, inflation is falling under Biden, and yet voters who prioritize inflation are leaning toward Trump who will raise inflation by a lot. What?
None of this makes any sense, and we only have 40 days to turn the tide on this issue.
If you happen to know anyone who’s planning on making this huge blunder by voting for Donald based on prices, please share this article with them. Just forward the email version of it around with my wholehearted permission. The stakes are too high.

On Tuesday, MSNBC's Alex Wagner sat in a room full of Trump supporters in Michigan and the tension was, well, intense. You can clearly see on the young, white, men -- their hate and ignorance is an unmovable wall. "The economy" is a convenient and comfortable shield to hide behind when misogyny, racism, and their utter contempt is clear to see. They can't fathom ceding their power to a woman of color -- both in their vote, and even when dealing with Wagner in the room. Meanwhile, the pervasive nature of misinformation was on full display this week. Macklemore shouting "F America" and screaming "Free Palestine" -- as if Palestine was ever free for women and the LGBTQ community before 10/7. Chappell Roan's misguided bothsiderism. Janet Jackson claiming "I've been told Harris is white." And then finally, the tsunami of celebrities who posted the "Bye Meta AI" meme which was a rehash of the "facebook privacy declaration" from a decade ago. It seems harmless, but served as a reminder how misguided celebrities can spread misinformation (not to mention virus links) to a billion people in a single day.
... and you might also want to point those waffling Trump voters at Thom Ecks's "Notes from a Future" <https://tecks.substack.com> for a ground-level vision of what a second Trump administration would actually look like.
