How 11 Years Of Right Wing Hate Has Changed Me
A Facebook memory from 2011 popped up and reminded my of just how naive I used to be about Republican racism and hatred towards minorities.

One of the few things I actually like about Facebook is the “Memories” feature that allows you to look back at and repost pictures and thoughts from one year to over a decade ago. Sure, I have all the pictures and videos of my kids on my computer, but it’s a nice little nostalgic surprise to have them pop up unexpectedly.
I also get reminders of old political posts. As you can imagine, there are many and it’s interesting to see how my thoughts have shifted and evolved (or haven’t) over the last decade and change. For instance, a FB note (remember notes?) popped up in which I waxed on about white pride and white privilege and I was surprised at how, maybe not quite forgiving, but less militant I was about it.
Oh, how a decade can alter one’s perspective.
Apparently, I used to be a lot nicer (and stupider)
In the distant past of June 2011, I had only been on Facebook for about 18 months. I’m pretty sure my MySpace account was still up and running but I was already starting to build a following writing for the now-defunct Addicting Info (it wasn’t always a shitty clickbait site, you know). Someone asked me why I thought we, as Americans, frowned upon “white pride” and I answered. Looking at it now, it’s not the worst answer but it wasn’t great and far nicer than the one I would give now:
