I don’t usually like to start articles with a quote from a random Twitter user, but I felt this summed up the tragic case of Matt Taibbi and his descent into the bizarro fringe of US politics:
Years ago, I remember reading a story you wrote for Rolling Stone. It drew me in. I wept; profoundly affected by the level of thought and complexity of the piece. You were instantly my favorite journalist. Today ... The Daily Caller??? What the F@$& happened to you?!
That was in response to Taibbi tweeting out a Daily Caller story on a long forgotten part of the Russiagate story he thought vindicated his fringe position (that the whole thing was nothing more than a Democratic hoax):
