Monday Motivation: Chatting With The Enemy, Scary TV And More!
Here's what you need to know about the upcoming week on The Banter
Happy Monday everyone! Moving forward we'll be publishing a new segment “Monday Motivation” designed to keep you upbeat and informed about the upcoming week. We’ll be covering what you might have missed on The Banter, articles and newsletters you can check out, what we’re up to, and much more!
Chatting with the enemy
Last week Bob Cesca and I went on former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh’s podcast ‘White Flag’ to discuss so-called “liberal bias” in the media. If you get a chance, I’d highly recommend giving it a listen. It’s a fascinating, in depth discussion on what both Bob and I believe to be one of the greatest myths ever perpetrated on the American public. Joe believes otherwise, and we did our damndest to convince him otherwise. I think there may have been a few lightbulb moments during the interview as we laid out concrete evidence the exact opposite is true, but Joe has his position and he was quite tricky to move. Either way, I really enjoyed chatting with him and genuinely felt the podcast was a productive one. You can listen to the show here:
Newsletter shout out
Every now and then I’ll give worthy Subtack newsletters a shout. I’m only going to do this with the truly exceptional ones so that you don’t clog up your inbox with never ending articles you probably won’t read. This week, I highly recommend subscribing to Conspirituality Podcast host Derek Beres’s newsletter ‘Trickledown Wellness’. Derek tackles the sordid world of Wellness Influencers, many of whom have made out like bandits during the Covid era peddling anti-vaxx propaganda and medical misinformation. I recently interviewed him for a piece we did on the subject because of his expertise. Derek is a great writer and journalist too. Here’s a link to his latest piece on the economics of the anti-vaxx grift:
Make sure you subscribe to Conspirituality Podcast as well. It’s one of the most important podcast in recent times and works as an incredibly effective antidote to the virus of conspiratorial wellness bullshit we are all susceptible to
Shows to watch
My wife and I decided to rewatch the BBC psychological serial killer drama ‘The Fall’ roughly seven years after we first saw it. The Northern Ireland based show is every bit as good as we remember, and utterly, utterly terrifying. If you haven’t seen it, Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson’s cat and mouse game is high IQ stuff with a phenomenal script and chillingly good performances. Rewatching it has meant picking up on many of the show’s subtleties I hadn’t noticed the first time round, leading me to believe it is a modern masterpiece of almost Shakespearean proportions. It really is that good. Even if you’ve seen it before, have another watch. You won’t be disappointed (in fairness you might not be able to sleep either…). It’s available on Amazon Prime right now.
