Republicans Are Whizzing On The Electric Fence…Again
Republican voters are in for a rude awakening this November. Again.
by Bob Cesca
WASHINGTON, DC – Shit happens. I was in the middle of writing this piece about Donald Trump when I checked my email and received Ben’s excellent post, The Truth About Trump's Chances In 2024, in which he covered some of the things I was also writing about. I love the serendipity but not the repetition. So I’ve revised this piece to avoid stepping on Ben’s toes. But I urge you to also read Ben’s article since it compliments what you’re about to read here.

Donald Trump is a profoundly weak nominee.
For myriad reasons, I’m okay with that. Obviously. In fact, as the self-designated “Don’t get happy!” guy, I’m more optimistic about this election cycle than I’ve been in recent years. I’m still terrified of what it’ll mean if Trump defies the odds and somehow wins but, at least for now, I objectively don’t see a path for him to get there.
The primary reason for my rare show of optimism is this: most of the American voting population was sick to death of him already – before this campaign cycle even began. His support has reached a ceiling and there’s nowhere else to go. Voters were sick of him four years ago, and nothing in particular has occurred to make them reconsider their raging case of Trump fatigue – quite the opposite.
Indeed, casual voters who comprise the vast majority of the voting population haven’t really been paying attention to Trump since January 6, 2021. That all changes starting right about now. With his inevitable nomination and the absence of all but one of the other Republican candidates, the focus will again return to Trump around the clock – his rotted pumpkin head festooning our living rooms 24/7 just like before. Terrible news for Trump.
For the first time in several years, regular voters will be reminded of all the reasons they hated Trump and voted him out in 2020, and, like always, Trump will do 99 percent of the reminding. As I’ve said many times: the best case against Donald Trump is Donald Trump himself. The difference between 2020 and now, incredibly, is that all of the reasons to be sick of him have grown far more repugnant. His racism is more obvious. His crimes are on display every day in court. His cruelty and bullying have magnified to singularity proportions.
All of the bullshit that’s traditionally expectorated out of his gross yapper has been magnified by a factor of thousands just to keep his Red Hat disciples from getting bored with him, and millions of voters will be coldcocked as soon as they’re re-exposed. He’s talking about being a dictator, he’s demanding to be immunized from the rule of law, he’s more racist and woman-hating than ever before, his verbal short-circuits have grown more frequent, and worst of all for him, voters will remember how he presided over a deep recession and the deaths of 400,000 Americans in his final year.
Combine this with the Biden campaign strategy that will be emphasizing Trump’s part in repealing Roe, while also underscoring the administration’s economic achievements just as many voters begin to see and hear about real world indications of economic prosperity.
Many people don’t know this but factory construction has tripled as a result of Joe Biden’s infrastructure plans, from around $6 billion per month under Trump to an unprecedented $18 billion per month now. This means new jobs for construction workers, new jobs for factory workers, new jobs for factory management, and, most importantly, America is building things again.
You should be blabbing this all over social media, by the way.
Contrast this immense economic success story against Trump’s manufacturing recession in 2019 – before COVID – and the aforementioned economic recession in 2020, both occurring during the presidency of the so-called “businessman president” – the guy who allegedly builds things. (He doesn’t. He licenses his name to actual people who build things.) Fold into the mix the fact that Trump presided over a record 2.9 million jobs lost during his one term, literally the worst jobs record in American history, while Biden keeps breaking records for job creation and low unemployment – near full employment, in fact. No wonder the Dow and S&P reached record highs this week. The economy is robust and expanding by trillions.
Do we really want to squander all that with more of Trump’s incompetent economic stewardship and fascist tyranny combined with the historic reality that every Republican presidency in the last 100 years has precipitated a recession? Look it up.
And while we’re here, if you’re still pissed about inflation, you should know that more than half of it was due to corporations milking consumers during the post-pandemic era for greater profits. So if you’re planning to blame anyone for the lionshare of 2022’s inflationary period, look to your favorite grocery store or other favorite shopping destination. It’s their fault. Incidentally, the Biden administration has reduced the rate of inflation from nine percent to two percent and falling.
Naturally, defeating Trump and his toxic party will require all-hands-on-deck. The numbers can’t win this alone. We have to get the word out early and often about Biden’s record of wins, along with the verifiable facts about Trump: he’s a serial loser, a serial liar, and a serial mess, despite all of his obvious bragging about fake successes to mask his many weaknesses. And yet Republican voters can’t quit him. They’re in for a rude awakening this November. Again.
