WASHINGTON, DC – Trump always makes things worse for Trump. I keep saying it because it’s my thing, but I also keep saying it because it’s invariably true.
In nearly every circumstance in which Donald Trump finds himself in political or legal peril, rather than exercising some grown-up self restraint, he continues to blurt things that only seem to worsen his predicament. We can always tell when he’s in serious trouble because his accidental confessions become louder and more obvious as the walls close in.
He really needs to shut up for his own sake, but he never will.
Ever since the FBI’s August 8 search and seizure at Trump’s Mar-a-lago country club, he’s been retconning one lie – one confession – after another.
He’s like a far less intelligent Walter White caught in an obvious lie, forcing him to concoct an even more obvious lie to cover up the first thing. Rinse and repeat. Initially, the line was that the FBI planted the evidence. That didn’t stick, so he insisted he magically declassified the documents. When that one started to disintegrate, he announced the existence of an alleged “standing order” in which anything he grabbed was automatically declassified.
