WASHINGTON, DC -- Every now and then, you might’ve heard Donald Trump accuse the press of actually wanting him to be re-elected because he’s so good for ratings and circulation.
Whenever that happens, I generally dismiss it as the usual Trump bullshit-on-a-stick. I mean, why on Earth would the news media want another four years in which it’s framed as “the enemy of the people,” accompanied by the inevitable arrest of journalists for insurrection and all other varieties of Trump vengeance. Indeed, the worst thing that could happen to the news media would be another four years of this president, given how Trump will come for reporters first.
But there’s also part of me -- and I’m not proud to admit this, but there’s part of me that thinks Trump is right. What if some of the network executives and publishers want another four years?
