In the latest episode of The Banter Roundtable podcast, Ben Cohen speaks to Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky on why Kamala Harris lost to Donald Trump.
I hope Rebecca sticks around. I pay $60/year for the Banter and it's worth every penny. I loved today's episode and look forward to following Julie's Substack as well. My main concern is that there will be no Midterm election, let alone a 2028 election (well besides a performance art illusion of one). Until the Dems can build a media ecosystem on par with X/Fox/OAN/Brietbart/Rogan, etc. and the millions of meme generators and bro podcasts, it really doesn't matter what they do -- the message won't get through. With MSNBC likely off the air by 2026 and WaPo already bending the knee to Trump (before the election), we'll likely need millions of under the radar sites like The Banter to underground railroad news and political strategy.
Agree a thousand times over with this: "Until the Dems can build a media ecosystem on par with X/Fox/OAN/Brietbart/Rogan, etc. and the millions of meme generators and bro podcasts, it really doesn't matter what they do -- the message won't get through."
I don't recall Harris ever using the words "patriarchy" or "privilege" during her campaign, do you? I know she made every effort to reach out to Arabic populations in Michigan. She frequently from the beginning spoke accurately that lots of people weren't benefiting from the best performing economy in the world. Border crossings were at four year lows and inflation was tamed. So is Roginsky claiming that other Democrats undercut her? Maybe, but maybe not. I think she had too little time to get through - and definitely should have distanced from Biden's biggest vulnerabilities in "shocking" ways. Joe would've understood and what could he do about it anyway. To me, the key issue is that Democrats lack megaphones. And tRump had plenty of dark PAC money. To all the "average" Americans, & folks who thought they were lectured who voted for tRump: FAF, I say (on blast). FUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT. But yes, let's talk and engage after this lawless sociopath lunatic has wreaked unparalleled havoc.
This was a rough listen. Focusing so much on the things you guys think Democrats didn't do, or did do but shouldn't have, is really quite a tragic miss. You're not exactly wrong, but it's like worrying about your car's carbon emissions in the face of trump naming Doug Burgum running the Interior. The sheer volume of lies trump voters have been fed, and eagerly swallowed, blows any mistake Harris or Biden may have done totally out of the water. Hispanics voted for trump to fix the economy for Christ sakes. That statement alone represents at least half a dozen things that are completely imaginary. Trump won because 50% of Americans don't live inside objective reality.
Then the part about still being hopeful to win over these voters.....we bravely fought the battle of the minds, and we LOST. There won't be a fair election again. I'm personally cutting out every MAGAt from my life, and I have no compunction about it. They get to live in the world they believe they wanted, and I get to live without them, family or no. They fucked all of us, so they can go fuck themselves.
I subscribed over a week ago. I subscribed to pay by the month and thought I'd be getting a free trial but maybe because I was a previous subscriber the system wouldn't allow that. So it took $39.99 out of my bank account. Surprise! But I thought " OK" they probably need the money.
Now I find I'm not even recognized as a subscriber. Could you just give me back my $40?

Sorry for my language.

No harm, no foul. I've been through this with the Atlantic. I asked them for my $79 back too.
