Part of the reason I'm a Democrat is that we *don't* act like Republicans. We even--gasp!--tell the truth and don't hate people who don't look like us. Acting like them makes us no better, no different, and while I know we need to do something to ratchet up our strength, I just can't think this is it.
Agreed. I’m one of those conservatives who Republicans left marooned on a desert island with a bottle of rum and a pistol with a single shot. I have voted for Democrats since Trump came on the scene because I don’t want to be associated with a brainless cult of personality.
I truly disagree. As a progressive constantly voting Blue it feels as if my wishes have been ignored long enough. This is part of the reason the DNC is in this situation; it has catered to corporate and banking interests over the needs of its voting base. I will never accept the theory that the ends justify the means. The means are everything and must hold.
Anything to win? Regardless of how deeply you need to lie to your voters? Nah, brah. I know politics shouldn't be a purity test, but I still want my politicians to be capable of shame, and to understand the difference between right and wrong.
“Consider what the Republicans did to get Trump elected. They ignored or vociferously defended every lie, misstatement, embarrassment, criminal indictment, and felony conviction that Trump incurred. They behaved as though they are in a death cult.”
If only these were the reasons democrats lost. They lost because of many things, and everything you say in this newsletter is correct. However, it’s only part of the story.
First off, we had a bought and paid for Judiciary compliments of Leonard Leo and McConnell. This inept, corrupt and partisan SCOTUS carved out an unconstitutional immunity clause in the constitution for one man: Trump! They also slow rolled two criminal investigations to make sure Trump was never prosecuted before the election. Not to mention, we had another a partisan hack who was confirmed five days after the 2020 election, and her name was Eileen Cannon.
Cannon, if you haven’t guessed, was the judge appointed to Trump’s document case, in which she slow rolled the case, ruled inconsistently, and was repeatedly overturned on appeal; yet, the case was magically dismissed after SCOTUS ruled on presidential immunity.
Personally, I’m not sure how stealing top secret documents from the National Archives, lying about it, and refusing to give them back is part of the presidential official acts; especially when the man is no longer president.
Additionally, Fanni Wiiis was removed by a Trump judge because she dated a co-worker. Seriously? Willis was also prosecuting individuals who gained access to voting machines illegally, and because she and her entire office was removed from the case, the public never heard about it. Coincidence?
Therefore Trump had a bought and paid for Judiciary complements of The Federalist Society and Heritage.
Additionally, we had billionaires aligned with Trump buying media outlets. Musk bought Twitter and turned it into a MAGA propaganda machine; utilizing nefarious algorithms to target different demographics. We had a billionaire friend of Kushner’s buy Univision a year before the election; reprogramming the outlet to be more Trump “friendly!”
We also had mid-level media conglomerates like Sinclair buying local stations throughout the country, and periodicals like the Baltimore Sun. And how about the NYT’s and WaPPo sane washing Trump a year before the election and refusing to endorse Harris on the day they were scheduled to endorse her?
BTW, the NYT’s two biggest investors are Vanguard and BlackRock, both also happen to be two of Trump’s biggest supporters. Coincidence?
Additionally, we have Zuckerberg and Bezo’s; two former anti-Trumper’s who did a complete 180. Zuckerberg took down the guardrails on Meta, allowing misinformation and disinformation campaigns to run rampant, with impunity.
Bottom line: while democrats know how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, this loss has a lot more to do with outside factors and influences, than anything Biden, Harris or the democrats did to hurt their chances of winning.
And unless democrats address the 800 lb gorilla in the room, then they will always be fighting last term’s election, this time around. And quite frankly, it’s a recipe for disaster! IMHO…:)
As long as Schumer and Jeffries remain the only so-called national figures representing the Party, it will continue to flounder and lose support amongst voters...if fighting against tRumpy fascism is reduced to sending letters of. "concern" to the WH, screw them and let there be a bottom-up recasting of a revived Democratic Party. The DNC only speaks for the consultants, Wall Street, and the PMC, not for the millions who turned out last Saturday, know this!
Oh. For a minute I thought you meant becoming racist asshole fascists. Whew!
