You’ve expressed my feelings about Biden very well. Great president, needs to step aside now for Harris.

I have no fear everyone who is going to vote for Biden is going to vote for Biden, Harris, Newsom, a couch cushion, or whoever is on the ticket this November. My worry is that center 2% which can tip the scale either way. Most of them in my line of sight are leaning toward Kennedy, which means Trump will win. Despite the cartoonish voice and conspiracy-laden bizarro platform, Kennedy projects strength and physical stamina better than the other two. Optics is everything. The best thing Biden can do to cement his groundbreaking presidency is to hand the baton to the strongest candidate -- not the one who is next in line because that's the polite thing to do. Harris could be quickly rebranded as THE champion for women's healthcare rights, but she needs to surround herself with a dream team to showcase she's better equipped to manage the economy, environment, immigration, crime, and international diplomacy. The message shouldn't be man versus man, but party versus party. Harris + Solid VP + A Solid Cabinet versus Trump + 2/3 of SCOTUS + Project 2025.

A dangerous game is being played -- they used to call it Chicken. First, no one in Middle America is listening to the NYT anymore. Second, Kamala is a smart and capable person but for whatever reason, people will not vote for her in the numbers needed. God save us from Kennedy. And worst of all, the clock is ticking -- 16 weeks and 3 days to gain monumental support for an as yet unknown candidate. God help us all.

There is no way the Democratic Candidate will be someone other than Joe Biden unless the cabinet 25th Amendments him, or he drops dead. The first thing that came to my mind was "how does your position work?" There is no situation where the Democratic party doesn't collapse, UNLESS Joe Biden drops dead. If we were a parliamentary system, the situation would be no problem.

"On a human level, I do not want to see Biden subjected to this kind of appalling scrutiny"

And yet, here you are, adding to the scrutiny. Contributing to the problem you complain about.

"As I have said on several occasions, if Biden refuses to step down, Democrats absolutely must rally around him and do everything in their power to ensure a victory in November."

He has said he's going to continue. He's been quite clear on that. So are you rallying around him and doing everything in your power to ensure his victory, or are you still putting forth arguments for why he should step aside? Gosh, perhaps the contents of this article can tell us which way you've decided to go, rallying supporter or common hypocrite.

But he is letting his own PRIDE get in the way of his own promise to the voters just 3 years ago - he said he would only do ONE term - now he is reneging on that ! THAT makes me extremely angry ! RBG did the very same thing !

Is it his pride, or his sincere belief that he’s better positioned to beat Trump than any other has-to-run-a-campaign-from-scratch-in-just-115-days random candidate?

Everything about Biden’s character and history shows he puts country before himself. So between the two, there really isn’t support for the claim he’s on an ego trip.

As for being one term, I’ll have to look further into that. All the mentions I’ve see was that he was going to be a “transitional“ president without any mention of a time limit being placed on doing that. Can you point to where he said he wouldn’t run for a second term?

And even if he did say that, it’s been clear for nearly two years that he’s running again. Where were all the “You promised!” objections over the past two years? They seem to be coming up only now, when we’re getting down to the wire and people, realizing the stakes are incredibly high and the outcome uncertain, are panicking and looking for some kind of a magical assured solution so, out of fear, are coming up with all sorts of excuses to support the conclusion they want to have and ignoring the very real, practical reasons switching at this point is a horrendously bad idea.
