The most insane line I’ve seen regarding Garland was an almost throwaway line in a NYT profile last year, talking about the press conference to announce his nomination it mentioned Biden had only just got to know him

How the hell did Biden, a guy with a lifetime of Washington contacts not choose someone he knew well and trusted for what was obviously going to be his most important cabinet appointment, it’s truly mind boggling political incompetence from a guy I generally have huge respect for when it comes to his political instincts

“I do believe that some sort of peace will be achieved between Israel and the Palestinians, but it will be despite malevolent actors like Sinwar and Netanyahu”

It will happen when the Israeli and Palestinian people have had enough, decide to stand up, and get rid of leaders who are harming them.

IOW, not for a very long time.

“Will Democrats ever learn?”

I still cannot commit to an opinion on Garland. Thinking back in DOJ history, it seems I've been surprised more under Democratic leadership than under Republicans. I mean, I expect Republicans to go after abortion rights and do whatever else they meddle in, basically enforcing the party line. Nothing they do surprises me. Under Clinton, we got Waco and a lesson in the independence of the DOJ, as it should be. Waco was a tragedy, but it was not a case where blame only fell on one side. It wasn't the government boot so many conservatives interpreted it to be. Then came Oklahoma City. This ultimately led to J6. Garland has been in the thick of all of this, so I believe he is considering political violence in his calculus on how to proceed.

Also known as not standing up to the bully because if you do they might say mean things about you. In short, cowardice.

My issue with Drake has always been the phoniness of his act. If you've seen him on Degrassi or when hosting SNL, you can see he is a charming performer with great comic timing, with about as much gangsta street cred as Will Smith. As for the "beef", that's all it is, a monetized streaming event, a major-label audio Pay-Per-View boxing match. And I'll preface this with the admission my rap fandom began with Blondie and Sugarhill Records and crescendoed with De La Soul, with a few exceptions still slipping though like The Mad Rad, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, and Lady Sovereign. I loathe all the "in tha club" wealth and violence glorification and shudder to see white suburban kids emulate it, along with their minivan driving yoga mothers who use it to soundtrack their cathartic TikToks. I'd much rather hear a gifted MC from any generation take on fascism (long the inspiration of great punk and post punk anthems), anti-semitism, cancel culture, capitalism, education, women's rights, trans rights, civil rights, income inequality, and extremism on both sides.

The prevalence of pissing contests — I’m sorry, “rap beefs” — is one reason I never got into hip-hop. They’re stupid and infantile, and reinforce the violence-and-firearm friendly image the genre can’t seem to — or doesn’t care to — purge. I never saw that in rock ‘n’ roll. 🤔😉😊
