An Open Letter to That Guy:

Hey Dipshit,

This isn't helping. Please shut up and go away.

Sincerely,

My sister sent me a reel of what I guess was a pro-Palestinian protestor. I say guess because she couldn’t even tell a reporter why she was there or what the protest was about. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you for the roundup re Gaza and possible ceasefire and two state solution. I wonder about the merit of the current regimes making a sustainable deal, it would be better if Bibi was voted out and the Palestinians were able to form a legitimate gvmt rather than a military junta, but this is promising and not a moment too soon. Are there any alternatives on either side and any chance N. will get voted out if his gmvt brokers the peace? Have any other countries in the region come out in support of Hamas military leaders taking control of the

Palestinian territory?

And yes re the Columbia student leader, totally shocking. Does that qualify as hate speech yet?

The sooner Bibi goes, the better. With him in power, there is no peace. Ditto for Hamas.

He doesn’t understand that as a gay man, Hamas would kill him too?

“James regurgitates woke left ideology in the way extreme religious zealots do. There is no thought”

Indeed. His repeated use of the phrase “antithetical to peace” made that clear to me.

Falling back on a magical mantra is a sure sign that someone has given zero thought to their position. They saw a few words that would fit on a bumper sticker that catch the gist of what they want to believe, and think no further.

I'm so glad I discovered your newsletter. I thought I was going crazy.

I’m not sure about surrendering to the right-wing fascist connotation of “woke”, as Ben seems to be doing. We need to take it back and return it to its original meaning, to be awake, to be aware and honest about the shortcomings of our society, while defending the basic values of, e.g., free expression, that make it desirable to be a member of our society. 🤔😉😊

I have honestly tried to hold off on using the term, but I just can't any longer. This dude is the epitome of a woke idiot and doing a great disservice to liberalism.

The problem is a lot of the alt lefties chanting “from the river to the sea” were not around during 9/11, and their pro-Hamas bullshit is basically the same thing as supporting bin Ladin after the twin towers fell.

(Many of them are praising his letter ffs)

I like to ask them where their outrage was over the 20 yr war in Afghanistan? It was nowhere, because they didn’t give a fuck. And anyone praising Hamas doesn’t actually give a fuck about Palestinians. It’s all performative outrage fueled by propaganda most likely pumped in through tik tok from Iran and Russia.

Very likely re propaganda Social media is such a short form of info exchange, there has to be an investment in long form journalism and that's definitely lacking for young people, though who could hardly blame them. These kids don't remember the time when there was publicly funded media and the streams of info weren't so consolidated, and they don't know how to be critical thinkers yet, just critical and angry but that's what constant war does to people even if they aren't the ones fighting.

Performative outrage is right. That’s all it is. Your motivation isn’t “Hey, make things better for these people“ it’s “Hey, look at me! And be impressed with how self-righteous and morally superior I declare I am.”

Far from being inspired by a desire to help others it’s the opposite: rooted in selfishness.

Where was the outrage on college campuses when the United States was killing a half million Afghani and Iraqui civilians, destroying massive amounts of infrastructure, setting those countries back years. After 9-11 there was no regard for the civilians. Most of us wanted these countries bombed back to the stone age or turned into parking lots. I am no fan of netanyahu. I believe that he is trump with a brain. I believe in a two states solution for the region. But it seems to me that the people who are pro Palestinian are in reality anti Semitic. Imagine if Israel had fought the Vietnamese conflict instead of us. Now imagine the global outrage Israel would have faced because of the death of a million and a half Vietnamese civilians. Global outrage which we really never had to answer for. Yes, in the end it's anti Semitsim.
