"I do think it’s extremely important that the Left tackles this problem before it gets completely out of control."

I think and worry that that ship has sailed.

Yes. The temperature has been altered within a day or two of the hamas attack, and Israeli retaliation, all the blame was shifted to Israel as if the terror attack by Hamas where they murdered, maimed, tortured and raped over 1400 people, including the elderly and the infants had never occurred and Israel was attacking Hamas unprovoked. I can’t believe it. Do people not know what’s going on? It’s as if they skipped the first act in the play. Totally ignoring what occurred. They can’t do that. I don’t care where you go to university it doesn’t make you expert if you only have bits and pieces of the story. You can’t look at one corner of a picture and make out what it is. Be thorough!

I find that your newsletters are “fair and balanced,” to use an overused term, and enjoyable to read. That is why I subscribed after coming upon some of your writing through the Notes feature. I find Bill Maher to be intriguing, although often arrogant, and that turns me off a bit. But I do continue to listen to him because he has important things to say. This far left and far right inclination to shut off anything that seems to contradict their preconceived notions is at the heart of the divisions in America today.

As a high school educator, I think people are underestimating those four years. There is almost no way you could spend four years attending where I worked and believe that white people could be oppressed or that black people aren’t anything but victims.

Sorry to hear that disagreements with some of your coverage has led to some cancellations. Not being able to handle disagreements seems to be a new social development, at least in my lifetime. I think it's of utmost importance to be able to keep communication open even while having differences of opinion. I subscribe to the Banter because I get so very sick of corporate spin and news outlets trying to chase clicks and advertising, and because I find your coverage quite thoughtful and well-informed. Glad you're here.

"A big thanks to everyone sticking around for the uncomfortable stuff."

The uncomfortable stuff is a part of why I stay.

Hell, if you didn't write something stupid, I mean, write something I disagree with every once in a while I'd have left years ago.

Thank you for writing a balanced piece on this terrible situation and thank you for pointing out the changes in Bill Maher over this last year. I used to watch him religiously, but after his fawning interview with Elon Musk and mostly favorable interview with the despicable RonDeSatan on his show some weeks ago, I've reconsidered watching him every Friday. I did not listen to his monologue on college students' embrace of the alt. left's viewpoints on the Palestinians this past Friday since I was out of the country and was still wavering in my loyalty to him.

I did the same after the vile Musk interview after watching literally every Real Time since it started and seeing Bill live at least four times over the years, and I stayed away when I heard he’d hosted DeSantis. But I returned because I wanted to see his take on the left’s reaction to the Hamas atrocities, and it’s been worth it. He has been spot-on. Go to Max and stream the most recent two episodes.

I agree with you about Bill Maher's most recent remarks concerning the Israeli-Hamas conflict since I was able to watch the episode after taping it on my DVR. He was "spot-on," as you said. Now I'm conflicted as to whether I should continue to watch his show.

Leave the victims and offspring of the trans Atlantic African slave trade out of this. Just don't.

Don't, just don't.

don't. Leave Black Americans out of your mouth.

Did I mention Black Americans? I stated that Arab Muslims were involved in the slave trade. None of that is disputable, and you can educate yourself, rather than apply totalitarian policing of facts.
