I firmly disagree with Justin on the death penalty. Ben seemed, well, “inconsistent” may be overstating it, but a bit fuzzy; he seems contradictory when he seems to say that some people deserve to die, but doesn’t want the government to do it, that he doesn’t “believe in killing evil people”.

I feel the government has no right to kill somebody in cold blood, which is what “execution” (as opposed to “in the heat of battle“ or something along those lines) entails. Simple as that. Justin‘s argument that the process itself is fatally flawed should be adequate for any rational person, but I take it all the way. Frankly, I would argue that life without parole is *worse* (and thus a better deterrent) than execution; ask Gary Gilmore. Are we talking justice or vengeance?

There used to be a lapel pin around in the 60s and 70s that said “Legalize Private Murder; Why should the Government have all the fun?” Truth in irony, I aver.🤔😉😊

What's the total amount the whistleblower gets, after taxes?

I dunno but even if they tax it at 50%, that’s still a lot of money.

Oh -- and how can Ben "claim" to come from England and not have ever heard of Jeff Lynne and ELO??? I'm beginning to think Ben's from Kansas and learned the accent by watching PBS.

Oh man -- in the IRS discussion it was right there on the tips of your tongues... "snitches get RICHES" :) -- like Justin, I messed up one year and went $50K in debt to the IRS. Took five years to pay off, and the penalties were minimal, and we moved on. I wish that was the message from the DEMS -- "everything MAGA sells you -- fear, culture wars, hate -- is a smokescreen so rich people won't have to pay taxes. Don't fall for it!" And then, as I've said before, lean in and really own the God message. If there is a God, the divine being is MUCH more likely to believe in love, compassion, conservation, and not destroying 99% of the living things created by God. Once evangelicals fear their team selection in the Pearly Gates game, they can become DEMS for life.

Justin! I saw ELO in Boston on the 23rd! My all time favorite band and I got to be there with my friends to close the books. The show had such a...strange magic...

I enjoyed listening to your latest podcast and am just as puzzled as Ben is as to what these polling numbers currently show for both Trump and Harris. I want to believe that these polls are underrating the support for Harris because that might give voters a false sense of complacency to not come out to vote for Harris. If the numbers show a much tighter race, this will give voters much more of an incentive to vote Democratic. So I'm hoping this is the reality, not anything else.

Trump is sputtering out like an old tired horse that should be put out to pasture, resorting to the same exhausted tropes about immigrants, crime, and a dark vision for America. Any sane voter would reject this negative view of the country and the messenger heralding it.

The latest salvo from Trump at one of his rallies depicting Harris as mentally incompetent is so disgusting! What is more disgusting were the cackles heard from the audience listening to this guy's drivel!

Trump will lose because of how exhausted everyone is with him, not for his lack of policies, or even Project 2025! Or that he's a convicted felon and an adjudicated sexual abuser.
