I’ve read no clearer statement on how the filibuster accounts for a lot of the damage. Joe Manchin defends it because without it, he does not sit in a West Virginia senate seat. To his credit, he plays both sides and has a history of doing good works as a savvy political operator.
But yeah, it insulates the politicians while not quite giving The People what they want. Whether it is a MAGA agenda, or ramming through a Green New Deal without partisan compromise, let the people taste it. If we do not like the flavor, and as long as we do not lose free elections, we will self-correct and move forward.
