“and it is already creeping into the Republican mainstream.”

Creeping? More like openly sprinting into welcoming arms.

Yeah, it's moving a lot faster than the fascism did and that's highly disturbing. It's like it's always been a natural fit.

Thank you so much for this! I was debating the whole "trans girls in sports" 5-alarm fire with a family member, and it was driving me crazy! Because the republican brouhaha about it is such a smokescreen. You have given me words. Keep up the excellent reporting!

Thank -you-! That is 60-70% of why I do what I do. Once upon a time I needed to learn the vocabulary to articulate what I was thinking and now I hope to give that vocabulary to others.

You are doing it brilliiantly!

Thank you for what you do.

I try to make sure when expressing my opinion with other people in conversation that it is in fact my opinion and not just something I read online that I’m echoing. Regurgitation takes no thought, no analysis, no assessing of your personal values to see if what you’re espousing fits with them and something that I prefer to leave to the MAGA sheep.

But, damn, if the examples you give and the wordings you use don’t often articulate very clearly my views in ways that I wish I was as good at coming up with.

That's about as high a compliment as it gets. 😁 I try to avoid recycling someone else's words but I will quote the shit out of them when they're saying the same thing because, thank god, I'm not a crazy person howling alone at the Moon.

And then, of course, there’s the ironically-named “Students for Fair Admissions”, who gave us the elimination of affirmative action… 🤔😉😊

Republicans are masters of Orwellian doublespeak.

Two thoughts - real quick and pithy:

>>"I was a frail, socially anxious nerd growing up &, consequently, engineered my entire Junior >>High & High School experience with one goal in mind: avoiding the ritual humiliation of Gym."

Maybe not the first thing I do after you elect me dictator, but within my first month, I would abolish required PE in Public Schools. Make it an elective. Allow students to opt out of the one period that even as a kid, I thought was completely useless.

>>It would also bar employers from retaliating against workers for sharing salary information and >>from inquiring into or taking into consideration an employee’s wage history.

Write this one down, kids: Salary transparency will be -the- most societally transformative issue of the 2030's. If you are a newly married couple, any children you may eventually have will reach adulthood completely baffled by the idea that they did not know the salaries of their peers. It may or may not require legislation but Generation ZZZ (or whatever we will call them) will demand it.

Yeah, I agree with Jeff, PE is kind of important, especially for kids who get zero exercise. They should absolutely do away with any competitive PE. No one needs to lose at dodgeball to get exercise, but swimming, jogging, even speed walking has utility.

I disagree with this. Kids today don’t get anywhere near enough physical activity. Making it part of the curriculum is, at least, better than nothing. Your latter point, however, for sure.🤔😉😊

Justin, thanks for this thoughtful article on the current state of “fairness” for women and trans people. I really like that you have read widely and given us some insightful quotes from your sources. However, as a dedicated rabbit holer who like to dig deep into a subject, i would really appreciate it if you could name your sources in the article. I’m not trying to steal your thunder, just want more on what is to me, a woman, a very important topic. Thanks and thank you for writing this much needed analysis.

Hello! Thank you! I link to most everything I reference directly and definitely everything I quote. Are the links not showing up for you?

Hi, I am on my phone now and can see the links but could not on my laptop. Strange. Thanks for clarifying.

No worries. Was it just that article? Or do the links not show up on your phone on our other articles as well?

If it's just a one time glitch, no biggie. If none of the links show up, we might have to tweak the color of links so they appear on your phone. Presumably it wouldn't be an issue unique to you. Speaking of which, what kind of phone are you on?
