I recently began my ninth year of writing for this innovative and fearless publication, and until now have largely stayed out of the comments section, though I faithfully read every last comment. The outpouring of support here is humbling. Thank you. I will have a lot to learn procedurally between now and the end of the calendar year, when the race starts in earnest, but for the most part I think I'll enjoy the process. Regardless, over the past few trying months I've hit the point where I would never forgive myself if I didn't give it a shot. The upcoming races are going to draw in all sorts of talent belonging to folks who had never seriously considered it before. It's going to be a great time to be alive, damn the torpedoes. And for good measure, let me piss off MAGA by bragging in advance about one of our main strengths--DIVERSITY! Take that!
Also great to know I’m not the only person that hadn’t written a letter to the representatives in my life. At 56 I’m finding my sarcastic and/or offensive toned letters are satisfying for my soul.
This is what democracy looks like! I’m cheering for your success from NC. Please share your story with the Run For Something organization. I’m sure they will want to share your thought process and the direct challenge to the sitting representative. A master class in holding him accountable.
I wish you the very best! While my Alaska residency doesn’t tend to make my vote count for much, I do support swing state or important local elections financially as I can. I remember watching your district’s race in the national media. I’ll keep an eye out for your campaign website and work to help you swing your district Blue once more. I second linking up with Run for Something. A neighbor in my very red area worked their program for a seat in our state legislature. He didn’t prevail, but he came much, much closer than we thought he would. He is continuing to follow their suggestions for between campaigns and hopes to win or at least shrink the margin further next election.
