In this extra special edition of The Banter Podcast, Ben and Mike discuss the Democrats' nuclear options for stalling or stopping Trump's forthcoming nominee to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Given all that's transpired in the last 4 years the Democrats have to get their knuckles bloody. They have to hold the Republicans responsible for trashing our governmental system while fixing the very system that has been allowed to be trashed. This system to date has had to rely on the good faith of the elected. That now has to be fixed. SCOTUS confirmations being one of the examples. Emoluments being another and so on. There has to be mechanisms put in place to enforce these.
Our method of elections *has* to be overhauled. It's so far skewed to favoring a minority of voters as to become only an echo of honest representation. Either do it as a popular vote and eliminate the EC altogether or reengineer the EC so as to be proportional to the population so each electoral point is as close to having the same weight per person across the country. Gerrymandering needs to be eliminated entirely. Districts have to be determined by a national non-partisan agency.
I could go on but I have things to do while dodging Covid-19. I hope you get the idea of what I'm saying here.
Please don't ever try to end on a good note again ok? :) At least not till after January..
I'm with Ben on whether we should start pulling our hair out over the Supreme Court or see a best-yet chance to justify packing. Alternatively Democrats may finally have enough power and good sense to actually legislatively fix many of the thorny issues instead of relying on an unstable Supreme Court.
Also feel like talking about anything relating to what the dumpster-in-chief said, may think, posted, implied or lied about is an utter waste of time at this point. With at least 60% of all news headlines being about that for 4-5 years I really don't get how others still seem to not get sick of this trolling.
Anyways, podcast is brilliant as always so thank you!
Ha!! It's a fine balance right? Trying to remain positive, but appropriately acknowledging the threat we're facing. Not sure how to get that one right...Appreciate the kind words!
Fantastic chapter to the podcast!

Absolutely Andrew. I agree completely on all fronts. EC reform could be the way to go.
