I have heard many experts like HCR and Joyce Vance say that Christopher Wray’s resignation was a preemptive move. The way the laws are written (and i probably won’t have this exactly right) but the FBI director cannot be a recess appointment and also the acting person has to have previous service at a very high level, like GS11 or higher. There are no indications Patel will not be confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate so why resign and clear the way?
Well I would not assume to know the workings of Washington but this is related to what I was saying.
