Back in the distant past of June and July, Republicans were a surefire bet to take back the House and the Senate and Joe Biden was a complete and total loser. Why, there wasn’t even a point in him running in 2024. The economy was terrible (it wasn’t)! Gas prices were too high (this was true)! Biden had singlehandedly given America the worst inflation in human history (inflation is bad across the globe so clearly not Biden’s fault but it was really high)! Dems in Disarray! They hadn’t passed anything in months! Roe v. Wade was at long last vanquished! Republicans on the march!

That all did a rather dramatic 180 in very short order, leaving Democrats standing unified while the GOP turned into a squabbling mess, scrambling to find a new message just weeks before voting started. Naturally, they turned to the one thing that will always motivate their base of hatemongers:
