This is one of those “things I will never understand”.
I mean , I get why there is some (some) rationale for giving a sitting President some shielding from having to deal with civil suits. It prevents folks from harassing with continual baseless, politically-motivated claims.
But from *criminal* charges? It is declaring “Yes, this person *IS* above the law.“ That a president can commit crimes and we cannot hold them to account for it. Not even for crimes they committed BEFORE they were in office.
