"Wray’s resignation is perhaps the most glaring example of obeying in advance. He didn’t have to go. In fact, the law says he can’t be fired without cause and can therefore serve the remainder of his term, which ought to have lasted until 2027. Once again, he’s paving the way for the Gestapo tactics of the incoming administration – practically endorsing it."
Exactly right. HE DIDN'T HAVE TO GO.
By volunteering to quit he's doing the fascist's dirty work for them. They make a threat ("gonna fire you") and he makes sure they don't have to follow through. He tells the fascists clearly that a threat is all it takes. He's empowering them and providing cover for them because they never have to be seen actually taking action.
And his claim that this is the best way to preserve the FBI is steaming bullshit. He's willingly handing control over to someone he *knows* is sworn to destroy the FBI.
Obeying an advance does absolutely NOTHING to keep you safe. It empowers and covers for the fascists so in fact makes you very much less safe.
The possibility of losing his pension was probably a factor in Wray's decision too. If he stayed and was fired, he'd have to sue to get his pension. A case of getting out while the getting's good.
Since my posting I saw a couple people speculating that Wray is getting out the way he is because it precludes Trump being able to replace him with Kash Patel for a 90 days.
Which, if part of Wray's intent, mitigates it all somewhat. Although I'd still wish, if that were the case, Wray would make it known. People need to see examples of someone deliberately making things harder for Trump.
Time Magazine had as person of the year Adolf Hitler in 1938, Josef Stalin in 1939, and Ayatollah Khomeni in 1980. Diaper Drumpf was person of the year in 2016, and in 2024.
Plato has the ideal quote for this situation: "Silence gives consent". Let's NEVER keep silent.
https://www.newsweek.com/chris-wray-fbi-director-donald-trump-kush-patel-january-inauguration-1999725 I found this alternative take somewhat convincing vis-a-vis Wray's decision. Time will tell.

"Do not obey in advance"
I guess we are now the fifth column
He couldn’t conga if he tried. Couldn’t you just see him trying. Yikes.

I will never again consider Time to be a thrustworthy magazine.
This is the Age of Cowardice.
“When I hold my ass out to you, buddy, you just ask: How deep?”
