OK, but we also need to be prepared for those who now feel empowered to cause violence. Someone in my neighborhood just said that he hopes there is a Civil War so that he could shoot some Democrats. This is the reality we are now facing.
Thank you for this. I am grieving deeply and terrified for so many of my friends and loved ones, not to mention the climatological and geopolitical ramifications that you discussed. I cannot believe so many people voted against their best interests to embrace hate over joy. That alone is amplifying my grief astronomically.
More grief: women who will die due TFG’s national abortion ban. Women who will have to give up sex when contraception is no longer available (are you listening men?) Increase in water, air and food pollution. Quack medical care advertised without any evidence. Abolition of NIH research into infectious diseases. Starving public schools of money while funding fundamental private schools. So many more.
And personally… I volunteer to help resettle LEGAL immigrants who are refugees or on Temporary Protective Status. We had to tell the young children what to say and who to call if they are reported or accosted by their neighbors. The parents may be swept up in the deportation frenzy - adults who have witnessed the murder of their spouse and been set on fire by militia gangs or crouched in basements in the dark during the bombings.
As a self-employed trans person, I am absolutely terrified and mulling a variety of options -- all of them drastic and dark as I grieve the death of the life I was living and the one I could have lived. I'm assuming having a majority on the SCOTUS, Senate, Executive, and most likely House, they are going to act fast and pass some insane resolution to cancel all future elections and prevent a midterm blue wave -- doing some hoodwinking (extreme makeover: districting edition) where perhaps we have ceremonial elections like Russia and China, but that any credible opposition won't be able to run or will be jailed/killed when they do. As Trump has alluded, the first protest will likely end in bloodshed as his way of crushing all future opposition. And I wonder if we'll see the likes of Liz Cheney and Jimmy Kimmel jailed, if not killed, to send a message. The resistance is over -- this was our one last chance, and it was extinguished.
I agree. And I am so exasperated with so many people who are so blase and complacent about Trump's seizure of power.
In any event, I think that some of the explanations, for Kamala's loss, are invalid. I propose several explanations for her loss that have not been discussed. I welcome criticisms of my ideas (And I am a sucker for compliments, so feel free to complement me. Newsflash: the Mexican president has said that he will build a wall (a "big, beautiful wall" to be exact) to keep out American Democrat refugees from Trump.
His slogan is "Mexico for Mexicans", and he won't tolerate a whole load of immigrants coming in from the US, taking jobs from the locals and using up scarce education and health services. Any American illegals will be rounded up and sent back to where they came from!
Ukraine and the climate (world) were the first two things that came to mind for me. We're fucked, too, and it's going to take literal generations to overcome the damage that will be done in just the next couple of years.
But the people in Ukraine (and Palestinians) are going to get the main immediate deadly brunt. Our economy is going to tank, but literal tanks and bombs falling beats a stock market falling every time. 🟦🟦🟦🟦

They share the delusion and fervent hope that they get to star in their own personal real-life action movie.
It's the "But I *do* need an AR-15 to defend my hope." psychosis.

How can we allow this? How can we accept it?
Your choice of with Leo McGarry's PTSD story is perfect for this moment in time. Thank you for the reminder.

The most tragic part the people they voted for him are also gonna get hurt. They just don’t know it yet.
