Problems by Republicans become acute, threatening to become more unmanageable and demand a remedy. They have a detonating issue-their problems growing in magnitude and menace and beyond Trump’s invisible hand to solve. Hopefully, there will be a reasonable breakthrough that will lead to a new political epoch.

I hope you are right. My guess is they put forward someone truly insane instead and bully the moderates into submission.

(Let me preface this comment by saying I do not believe Kevin MC should be Speaker)

It seems to me that all it would take to end this stalemate (madness) and knee-cap the Freedom Caucus would be for 6 Republicans to threaten to vote for Jeffries if they don’t fall in line and get on with the business of governing.

Just a thought.

Good idea in theory but I suspect it will only embolden the Freedom Caucus. They couldn't care less about the GOP or who is in control. They want to burn things down and carve out media careers for themselves. That's it.

It won’t happen, but McCarthy could win the next round of voting if he went to the Dems and said, “Fuck the Freedom Caucus. I’m going to revoke all the concessions I’ve made to them and will instead make a few reasonable agreements with you so we can work together to govern. Together we’ll just ignore the crazy caucus in my party.”

Won’t happen because it would require McCarthy to actually lead, and he’s repeatedly shown he’s incapable of anything more than following.

The Freedom Caucus believes it holds the keys to the castle, its time to show them that they are nothing but bottom-feeders in the castle moat.

Right on Bob. Since Reagan the saying has been something like "republicans think gov't doesn't work and they keep getting elected and proving it" I'm pretty sure a functioning opposition is required for a healthy democracy to thrive. But, dammit, talking. and debating and hashing things out is hard and exhausting. Can't we just have someone to do our thinking for us!? After all, we've proven gov"t doesn't work by our ineptitude! Pitiful. BTW can someone please tell me what it is about Merica that these people love? O yeah. Unregulated guns and markets.

It's often said that the current agenda of the Republicans is to "own the libs". I'm not sure that liberals were *ever* owned by their antics but boooy oh boy are they succeeding at doing it to themselves.

As a side note, every time I hear about the moral decay and willingness to look the other way at how truly awful some of the GOP members are I think of the Blazing Saddles recruitment scene as the qualifications that are sought after to be in the party.

Once again, Thomas Mann and Norman Ornstein of The American Enterprise Institute - hardly a left-wing radical organization - in a Washington Post column 2013 declared the Republicans were no longer a political party, but an "insurrection." The American empire has seen its day. This is the decline and fall. Unfortunately, we all reap the consequences.

Not sure I agree that America is in decline. Much of it is quite healthy, particularly after Trump was deposed and Biden got the government back on track. Relative to Europe and the rest of the world, America is in quite good shape. The GOP not so much though. It's a failed party and will face a reckoning of extraordinary proportions in the coming years.
