Santos built upon Trump and now Trump builds upon Santos -- say whatever you want to win over people in the room and trust they're so isolated in their information bubble that they will never hear the opposite story you told the people in the adjacent room. Meanwhile, to carry over a comment in the Saturday roundup, I have yet to see one mainstream media outlet report on the press pool attack that happened at Trump's Moms for Liberty speech, sponsored by The Heritage Foundation of Project 2025 fame. The media steered clear of the event for the most part, because it disrupts their narrative that we should all trust Trump when he claims to have never heard about Project 2025. And yet. while the man scaled the fence to attack media covering the event, Trump egged him on. "He's one of us. He's one of us. Don't worry, he's one of us." As the man was tazed and led out by security, the crowd of pearl clutching white nationalists started grunting like rabid dogs. Trump then bragged about how entertaining his rallies are. Bottom line -- former/future leader of the world says the media need to be attacked with violence, and the media shrug it off because said violence means the news remains an addictive and profitable product.
"the longer the conflict goes on, the longer Netanyahu’s political career continues."
I've seen similar comments for months, and I don't get that. Are elections not held as long as the war is going on? I've been reading for a similar time period that Netanyahu isn't particularly popular at home. So why isn't he being voted out?
My rudimentary understanding is that Israeli has a parliamentary system. People vote for the party rather than a candidate and the Knesset, the legislature, votes for the Prime Minister. I think coalitions are built by the various parties which is how Netanyahu has stayed in power through multiple elections within a short time span. Fuck that guy.
Yes, typical parliamentary system. The leader of whichever party has a majority of seats is the Prime Minister. If no party has a majority then coalitions form.
But still, elections must take place periodically and Netanyahu (and presumably his party?) are losing popularity. And hard to believe parties further to the right would be any more popular.
So how is he able to cobble together enough support to stay in office, and how much longer before he has to call for an election?
People keep saying he's prolonging the war because when it ends he's out of office and going to jail. Why is it "he's in office as long as he can keep the war going"" and not "until the next election"?
I think the next election is in 2026 unless there’s a vote of no confidence. It seems like the president could, but that means dismissing the whole cabinet. It all smells like back room deals
OK, I actually took a few minutes to "do the Google" for answers and it seems the next Israeli election doesn't have to happen until October 2026. Although some folks (unclear who) expect one will have to be called earlier.
One more thing, Trump is getting a LOT of favorable press attacking Harris for how Biden handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan and I have yet to see Harris counter with -- "you set this shit show into motion" -- look at the deal the Trump administration cut with the Taliban in 2020 -- giving them everything (5000 freed hostages + complete withdrawal from Afghanistan in return for... nothing. He set Biden up for failure -- and yes, while 13 service members died in the exit, most likely had Biden not withdrawn from this forever war, hundreds more would be dead by now. Had Trump not tied his hands and freed 5000+ violent extremists -- I bet the withdrawal would have gone smoother. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/08/20/trump-peace-deal-taliban/

It’s rather telling that the only place I see the kind of info that the press refuses to cover is on Substack.

His neo-fascist ultra-Orthodox coalition is preventing a vote of no confidence, a prerequisite for early elections, the public be damned. 🤔😉😊
Thanks.

Can't come soon enough.
The Convict is practicing his mime act, since he cannot state anything of practical import!
